Linksys EA5800 AC1000 Dual-Band WiFi Router Review
Consumer Reports’ Wireless Routers test program includes the Linksys AC1000 (EA5800), which is part of their Wireless Routers test program. Wireless Router models such as the AC1000 (EA5800) are evaluated in our lab testing based on a variety of parameters, some of which are given below.
A measure of how well a device and its service provider protect your data in terms of authentication, encryption, software updates, resistance to known exploits, and other factors. It is based on an examination of device features and network traffic, penetration testing, and publicly-available documentation, among other things.
Data collection, sharing, and usage by the device and its service provider as well as the capacity of the user to regulate the flow of their data are all evaluated. It is based on (but not limited to) evaluation of user interfaces and publicly-available content, among other things.
This was tested quite close to the router in a “normal” house with no additional wireless interference and the throughput (speed) of the communications was extremely high. In our home, this was 8 feet distant from both the wireless router and the base of the Mesh Wi-Fi router, which were both placed in the same room at the same time. A home or apartment’s performance will vary depending on the size and design of the building as well as the number of floors, walls, doors, and other impediments that stand between the router and the receiver.
