Installation of the TP-Link Tether application, which allows you to operate your TP-Link range extender, is covered in this guide.
Before We Get Started:
- Keep your TP-Link range extender close by.
- Make sure you have your smartphone or tablet with you.
Step 1: Choose Your Operating Software of Your Phone (OS Choice)
In order to proceed, Choose the operating that you use.
Android and iOS are the two most popular smartphone operating systems currently available, with Android being the most popular.
Step 2: Install Tether App (iOS)
- Open the App Store.
- Select Search in the bottom right corner.
- Type in TP-Link Tether, and select Get for TP-Link Tether.
4. Select Get for TP-Link Tether.
Step 3: Connect to Wi-Fi (iOS)
Note: The menu theme and choices may seem somewhat different on your screen depending on the device you are using (Smartphone or Tablet), as well as whatever generation you are operating on. All Apple iOS devices and generations, on the other hand, should follow a similar set of procedures.
- Open Settings.
- Select Wi-Fi.
- Select the TP-Link_Extender_2.4GHz or TP-LINK_Extender_5GHz from the list.
Step 4: Initial Setup
- Open TP-Link Tether.
- A simple welcome will be displayed swipe from the right to the left.
- A screen describing the Network Management features will be displayed. Swipe from the right to the left.
- A screen describing the ability for the app to control all your TP-Link hardware is displayed. Swipe from the right to left.
- The final welcome screen appears on the screen. Select Let’s Get This Party Started.
- A Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use are displayed. Carefully read the information displayed. When you have read and understood the policies, select Agree to continue.
- After a few moments, your Range Extender will show in the list of available options. Choose your Range Extender from the drop-down menu.
8. To control your Range Extender, you must enter a password of your choosing two times. Then click on the Create button.
Note: This is not the same as any other password that you may be using on your computer. This is a new password that will be used especially to manage the configuration of your Range Extender.
9. Your Range Extender will display a list of 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks that are currently active in the vicinity. Choose your home Wi-Fi network from the drop-down menu.
10. Select Join once you have entered the Wi-Fi password for your home Wi-Fi network.
11. Depending on whether you have a newer Wi-Fi router, you may also be prompted to select your 5GHz network and provide a password for it.
Note: If you don’t remember setting this up separately when you first set up your Wi-Fi router, it’s perfectly normal for the Network to have the same name and password. Just repeat the two steps above!
12. You will be given the opportunity to alter the Network name that appears on your Extender. Because it will copy your home network name by default in order to make your life simpler, it will do this by default. This is satisfactory; go to the next step.
13. A final representation of your configuration will be displayed. When you’re ready to go on, select Finish from the menu.
Note: In order to ensure that you have access to this information in the future, you may want to write it down.
14. Make sure your Range Extender is placed about halfway between your router and the devices you were experiencing troubles with before proceeding on.
15. After you’ve placed your Range Extender in the right spot, click on Next.
16. Your Range Extender is fully set up and ready to use!
For Android Users
Step 1: Install Tether App (Android)
- Launch the Play Store on your smartphone.
- Select the search bar at the top.
- Type in TP-Link Tether, then select TP-Link Tether from the list.
- Select Install.

12. You will be given the opportunity to alter the Network name that appears on your Extender. Because it will copy your home network name by default in order to make your life simpler, it will do this by default. This is Fine; go to the next step.
13. A final representation of your configuration will be displayed. When you’re ready to go on, select Finish from the menu bar.
